Three Dresses, Three Occasions

No matter the occasion, a dress is always a good idea. Whether you are celebrating Valentine’s Day with your gal pals or with your significant other, Tobi has the perfect dress selection for you! In this post, I will show you three outfits that will help you solve your “what-to-wear” crisis for any occasion and help you to feel festive for the holiday!

Brunch with friends: Alright, let’s be real. Brunch is a perfect excuse for looking cute and girly, which is exactly why I love this dress from Tobi. Nothing says feminine quite like a light-pink embroidered off-the-shoulder dress! I would definitely wear this if I’m going out with my friends to grab a bite to eat, whether it is morning, noon or night. This dress can easily be dressed up by adding a leather jacket, some black booties and gold jewelry!

Date night:  Got a hot date? Wow your significant other with a textured dress and a statement jacket, for a funkier and trendier twist on an otherwise classic Valentine’s Day outfit. I am obsessed with this wine-colored shift dress from Tobi and I’m already planning the next time that I can wear it out. This versatile dress is just $16 on the website right now, which is such a great price for a high-quality dress!

Shoes: Buffalo Exchange (similar) Jacket: Forever 21 (similar)

Class and other Wednesday responsibilities: While my Valentine’s Day is going to look like a typical Wednesday, I’m going to dress up a bit, just for the fun of it! But that doesn’t mean that I have to sacrifice comfort. When I saw this high-necked light pink t-shirt swing dress from Tobi, I knew that this would be the perfect dress for a standard day-on-the-go. I paired it with my favorite thrifted jean jacket and my well-loved slide-on sneakers from Steve Madden to complete the casual look.

If you haven’t done so already, check out Tobi and their dress selection. They carry so many unique styles of dresses, so almost everyone can find something they love! They have the best deals (50% off your first order, 50% random days, etc) so keep your eyes peeled!

Whatever your plans are for Valentine’s Day, I hope that your day leaves you feeling loved and known by those around you!

Tips for the Thrift pt. 2

Last week on the blog, I shared my tricks for thrift shopping in-store. This week, I’m talking about a whole new ballgame–thrifting online! There are so many apps and websites that make it possible to shop second-hand anywhere and anytime!

Poshmark, Depop, Vinted and many other apps are making it possible to purchase like-new pieces at a fraction of the price and this is a fantastic way to sell and buy clothing! However, today, I am going to be talking about my favorite place to online thrift shop: Thredup!

Thredup is my favorite website to browse and I have placed probably a few too many orders over the last couple years. I love it because it is easy to use, the prices are affordable and reasonable, and there are quality items on the website! In today’s post, I will be sharing you how I styled three pieces from the website and how I find the best items for the best deals!

This first outfit is super casual and comfortable, which has been my go-to look lately. I love these sneakers–I wear them all the time, so I bet you’ve seen them before! This shirt was a steal from Thredup. It is originally from Free People and I got it for around $10! I love the peplum and the ringer-neckline detail. I would swap out the sneakers for some booties, add a jacket and a necklace for a night out!

Top: Free People (ThredUp) Jeans: BDG (Buffalo Exchange) Shoes: Steve Madden (old)

Tip #1: Filter your search by selecting sizes. Although it isn’t good to limit yourself by looking at specific sizes in thrift stores, shopping second-hand online is a different story. It is inefficient and somewhat pointless to look through all the items when only a fraction of them are your size. Thredup makes it easy to apply a filter to your search that will narrow down the results. You can also do this with prices!

Tip #2: Search your favorite brands. I love having the ability to search the whole website to see what items are from specific brands. This is not possible in the thrift store, but online it is so easy and convenient! Thredup carries items from thousands of different and unique brands, so take advantage of the ability to search for your most-loved brands!

This next outfit is probably my favorite. I love the simplicity of it, yet I felt so chic and put-together! This cardigan has been one of my go-to pieces this winter season and I’m loving the fact that chenille is a trend at the moment! (Even when it goes out of style, I will not be over it.) I got this blouse, which is originally from Old Navy, on Thredup and I am obsessed with it. It is a short-sleeve striped button-down top–a total closet staple in my opinion.

Top: Old Navy (Thredup) Cardigan: Anthropologie Purse: Anthropologie

Tip #3: Look at the “Top Picks” section. I love looking at what others think are the “best items,” just for some inspiration (and hopefully a good find!). It is normally on the front page and it is helpful and fun to take a look at.

Tip #4: Be patient. Just like in-store thrifting, you won’t find something you absolutely adore every time you look on the site. Hundreds of items are added everyday, so make sure to check in and search for your favorite brands to see if anything new came in.

Tip #5: Look out for coupon codes for additional percentages off. Thredup doesn’t do this too often, but when they do it is AMAZING and it makes a big difference on the cost of the order! I’ve found they do it most often around holidays! (Pssstt…there is a coupon code at the bottom of this post!!)

Skirt: Madewell (Thredup) Jacket: Levi’s (thrifted) Top: Anthropologie (old)

This last look is so easy to recreate with things that you already have in your closet. This outfit was inspired by the skirt, which is a Madewell silk skirt that I bought on Thredup and it still had the tags on it. I got it for a fraction of the price, and it was as good as new! I already have a couple outfit ideas for this skirt so I’m pretty excited. Next to the striped button-up, this was my second favorite find on Thredup this time around.

I hope you learned some new ways to be successful while shopping second-hand online! If you are interested in checking out Thredup, here is a coupon code available for 35% off all first time orders up to $50 to the first 200 users! The code is: HERSTYLEDSTORY

Happy thrifting! 🙂

Tips for the Thrift Pt. 1

If you know me at all, you know I love to thrift. I started thrifting in early high school and my love for it has only grown. I love that thrifting is economical, sustainable and it encourages me to try new things with fashion.

Even though it does mean setting aside a couple hours and looking through racks upon racks of clothing and knick-knacks, the end result is totally worth it and I would recommend it to anyone.

If you are new to thrifting, you might be intimidated and confused on where to start or how to do it. In this blog post, I will be sharing with you a few tips and tricks on how I tackle a thrift store and I will also share how I styled one of my favorite pieces that I have found from shopping second-hand!

Tip #1: Know that there is not one “right” way to thrift. Thrifting is so unique for everyone, because it depends on where you live, what store you shop at and what items you are searching for. If you are worried that you will not be as “successful” as other thrifters, know that there is not a single definition for “success” at a thrift store and that everyones’ experiences are going to be different!

Tip #2: Look up days local thrift stores have sales. Almost all thrift stores have percentage-off days throughout the week, so take note and try to go on one of those days! Some of the deals can be as amazing as 50% everything, so take advantage of the sales!

Tip #3: Go thrifting with someone. Especially if you have never gone before, try to go with someone who also wants to try it out, or has already been. They can help you find pieces and tell you their honest opinion about something you find, plus it makes it so much more fun and you’ll feel more comfortable.

Tip #4: Go up and down every aisle. Yes, look at the men’s section, the shoes, the tank tops in the dead of winter and even the kid’s section! Look at the places and sections others may avoid. Sometimes that is where you can find the best stuff. Even if you aren’t searching through every rack and every article of clothing, feel the different fabrics and take a glance at the patterns to see if anything catches your eye.

Tip #5: Don’t rush. This is closely connected with the last tip, but give yourself time to look through the store completely. Don’t expect to be out of the store in 30 minutes, or in some stores, even an hour. Set aside a couple hours for when you want to go thrifting, even if it means going less often.

Tip #6: Don’t pay too much attention to sizes. Sizes are practically irrelevant in thrift stores. Something can be labelled as “XL” but it could fit as an “XS.” Forget about the number that the tag or sign says and gauge it based on how the garment looks, but be ready to try on.

Tip #7: Be Adventurous. You will find pieces and items in a thrift store that you cannot find anywhere else. With that being said, if you find a piece that is out of your comfort zone but captures your interest, try it on. Pick up the piece that you can’t stop looking at and carry it around the store with you. As I mentioned before, one of the many benefits of thrifting is that you find pieces that you cannot find anywhere else and that no one else will have. So try on the thing that you normally wouldn’t and bring it home if you love it!

This is a piece that I found at the thrift store that is totally out of my comfort zone: a bright fire-truck-red, corduroy jacket. It is a statement piece for sure, but I am in love with it. I loved being able to pair it with a simple graphic tee and high-waisted jeans, while also putting it over a black-and-white polka-dot dress for a more classic color combination.

I hope you found some inspiration and helpful tips to want to start thrifting and shopping second-hand. Stay tuned for another blog post (coming soon!) on a different, and somewhat easier, way to thrift.

And to all my fellow thrift-lovers, what is your favorite piece that you’ve ever found at the thrift store?

Transitional Fall Look Book feat. Tobi

I love this time of year; the air is getting cooler and the holiday season is finally here. I love pretending that a high of 65 degrees is an excuse to pull out the sweaters, scarves and jackets!

Transitional pieces are perfect for this time of year, as the temperature changes everyday. I am loving some specific pieces that I have been able to style in a couple different ways. These types of pieces are probably in most of your closets, so you can recreate these outfit ideas at home!

T-shirt DressI am loving mock neck dresses lately. I have been wearing the heck out of this one from Tobi! It has been such a staple in my fall wardrobe and it is one of the comfiest, most versatile dresses I own. This is probably my favorite item that I received from Tobi!

For an everyday look, I paired it with this maroon jacket from ThredUp, along with my well-loved black ankle booties from Target. For a colder day, I know that I could warm it up with a chunky scarf, riding boots and a warmer jacket!

Twisted-back Sweater: I have seen these types of sweaters everywhere this season, and up until I received this one in the mail, I wasn’t thrilled about the trend! However, now I am hooked.

I am loving the dusty rose color of the sweater and I think it looks great paired with something that is olive green or navy blue! For this look, I kept it simple by pairing it with a pair of straight jeans with distressing on the bottom from Anthropologie (old) and my go-to pair of mules from Qupid shoes.

There are so many ways to dress up this sweater! I would add a chunky necklace, throw a jacket on and change the light-wash denim for a darker, skinnier fit, and keep the shoes for a night out.

High-neck Shift Dress: This dress is the perfect go-to dress for a casual holiday party or special event. It looks so flattering on and again, I am obsessed with the mock-neck/high-neck trend this season.

Also, if you have been following me for a while, you know I am a sucker for a floral print. The colors on this dress are beautiful, too! I added a long cardigan from Target over the dress, to give it a more casual look. I also added my black booties to make it more appropriate for an ordinary winter day in Arizona.

To dress it up, I would pair it with a black moto jacket, black tights and these same ankle boots! DSC_0948.jpg

What are some of your favorite transitional pieces that you wear in both the fall and winter time?

This post was in collaboration with Tobi however all opinions are my own.

Wardrobe Essentials for College

Packing for college? Don’t know what clothes to bring? It can be a bit overwhelming, but have no fear! As a soon-to-be junior in college, I know what clothing pieces have proved to be necessities in my closet and what items are best to leave at home.

First things first: Bring plenty of tee shirts, leggings, Nike shorts, and sweatshirts. Many others have probably already told you that comfy clothes are the name of the game in college, especially in the dorm or at the library, so for this post I decided to focus on items that are more practical for everyday wear and several occasions that can (and will!) come up.

1. Pull-on shorts: These are a part of my everyday uniform in college. While they make you look put together and cute, they are extremely comfortable. In fact, I would compare the comfort level to that of Nike shorts, so I’d call that a win. Mine are from Madewell, but Old Navy  and J. Crew Factory have some great options as well, for a more affordable price. DSC_0654DSC_06902. Everyday Purse: Even though I recently purchased this purse from Old Navy, it has been my go-to bag all summer. It is the perfect size to be able to fit the essentials: my wallet, chapstick, phone, keys and my planner. An everyday cross-body bag, that isn’t overly expensive and therefore can be easily replaced, is a MUST for college! DSC_06693. Versatile tanks and tees: Running to class? Going out to dinner? Hanging out at the library? These are all occasions that I would choose to wear this oh-so-soft striped peplum tank from Anthropologie (which is currently on sale!!). To dress the top up a bit, just add a necktie or a necklace and a nice pair of jeans! DSC_0588DSC_05474. Slip-on Tennis Shoes: While I haven’t been wearing these as much this summer, these shoes are still one of my most worn pairs of shoes. You might be surprised about how many steps you have to take in an average day of college, so comfortable shoes are a necessity. In order to switch it up and look a bit more put together, swap out those Teva sandals or Birkenstocks for a pair of slip-ons. Mine are from Steve Madden but Vans also offers a wide selection. I promise, your feet will thank you later! DSC_05655. Little Black Dress: I cannot tell you how many events and occasions I have worn this dress to! From banquets, to birthday parties to class presentations, this dress has seen it all. Invest in a flattering dress that can be paired with different accessories to create countless outfits! When you are running a little late for your class or dinner date, a dress like this one will help deciding what to wear a breeze. I got this one from Buffalo Exchange, but Forever 21 and H&M have plenty of options. DSC_0628DSC_0620

Hope you enjoyed and found these tips helpful! Happy packing!

Style This: One Thrifted Shirt, Three Outfits

I am so excited for today’s post because I am starting a new series called, Style This! I always love reading blog posts where people explain and show how they styled one “problem” piece in their wardrobe or created several outfits from the same clothing item.

I am going to be sharing how I style this top that I got from ThredUp  for under $7 in three separate outfits. (YES, it was $7! You read that right!!)

Outfit #1: A Night Out DSC_0365

I already LOVE this top. It is originally from the brand Blue Rain, which I believe is sold at Francesca’s. The silhouette of the top makes the top look effortless and easy to wear for many occasions. I am a lover of color, but sometimes I like to stick with more neutral pieces, so this item seemed to fit both of those categories!

Jeans: J. Crew Toothpick Jeans // Shoes: Target // Purse: Rebecca Minkoff

Skinny jeans are my jam. In my opinion, they take this otherwise summery outfit from day to night. I added a few of my favorite accessories, including my Rebecca Minkoff purse, some statement earrings, and one of my favorite pairs of sandals to complete the look.

Outfit #2: Sunday Morning

I would wear this outfit on a Sunday, whether I was going to church or out to brunch, or in many cases, both.

DSC_0461If you have followed me for a while, you would know that I love to mix prints. These prints are easy to combine because they are both “cool” tones and they are not too busy. I’ve had this J. Crew skirt, which I thrifted, for a couple years now and it has come in handy for pattern-mixing outfits! Also, blue and white stripes are now a staple in my wardrobe, so I’ve been reaching for this skirt a lot lately.

skirt: J. Crew (thrifted) // shoes: Target

Outfit #3: Running errands

Nothing like a tassel necklace to jazz up an outfit! I love this color combination and how this simple accessory takes this outfit to the next level. I would definitely wear this outfit to work, to the grocery store, or even to class!

necklace: Charming Charlie’s // shorts: Gap (thrifted) // purse: Old Navy

Hope you enjoyed my first post of my new series! Let me know what clothing piece, trend or style you want me to style next!

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

This is one of the first summers in my life that I have been invited to weddings that my parents are not also invited to. In other words, I know couples around my age getting married! How crazy, right?

One of my favorite parts of going to a wedding, aside from watching the groom’s face as the bride walks down the aisle, listening to toasts from the bridal party, and dancing the night away, is figuring out what I am going to wear!

Here are two recreate-able outfit ideas that can be worn to weddings or other summer events, both of which are very affordable.

DSC_0716DSC_0708*glancing over the dessert table like*DSC_0720These shoes are from Saver’s and they are some of my absolute favorite wedges for the summertime. The block heel makes them pretty comfortable too! DSC_0701Turquoise beaded necklace and crochet red dress? Yes please.

I’ve always been a fan of turquoise, but now, bright red is making quite the appearance in my closet. To make this outfit more casual and to combat those chilly summer nights, (it’s chilly somewhere, right?) I would pair this outfit with a denim jacket.

On a different note, let’s talk about this jumpsuit for a bit.

DSC_0845 (1)

I am IN LOVE with jumpsuits. If I could, I would wear them all day everyday. I have basically been living in this one and wearing it for different occasions, such as going out to dinner and running errands, and I have gotten so many compliments! I think that jumpsuits are a great option for wedding guest attire, especially in the summertime.

This jumpsuit is from Old Navy–they are seriously stepping it up this season.

I chose to keep my jewelry to a minimum, with my favorite wrap bracelet and brown Fossil watch. I also am wearing some coral dangly earrings that I have had forever from Target to add a pop of color.  DSC_0849 (1)DSC_0903 (1)These shoes are also from Old Navy. I’m obsessed with these shoes–I wear them all the time and I would recommend them to anyone!

You’ll most likely catch me in one of these outfits for my upcoming events! What’s your go-to outfit for a summer wedding/event?
